Asterisk Fun

I’ve spent the last half hour or so trying to fix my Cisco 7945 that;s on my desk at home. I’t s anice phone, colour display and cisco brick-like build quality. Howerver, I don’t think Cisco want it to work with asterisk. After much trialling and fiddling I have it registered (extensions nat=no) and making and receiving calls. Anyway, recently I’d noticed the MWI light not coming on when I had a message. Out going calls were ok, but it turns out that inbound weren’t. Not changed anything, other than wiping my router but I wasn’t forwarding ports anway so what could be the problem? Asterisk keept on logging ast_tcptls_client_start: Unable to connect SIP socket to xxx:port Connection timed out I pinged my ddns and indeed xxx was my ip, so why didn’t it work? Well after 30 minutes I realised that my phone was natting itself with the IP of my ddns as BT change it whenever I reboot my router. I’d neglected to add the DDN settings back to my router when I wiped it, so it complaining was entirely justified. Added the DDNS config in, restarted the phone and away I go

Netflix

So far my free trial with Netflix has been less than magnificent. Many of the films I want are not there. Some new, some old, some neither. Actually, I’ve not watched a single film I’ve searched for. So far, the only things I’ve watched have been films that they have decided I would like. Which is fine. But I’d like to find films I want. Some example I tried that didn’t exist. “The Social Network”, “Office Space”. There are more, but I’ve forgotten. LoveFilm have them…. So I’ve cancelled. And LoveFilm is cheaper! Win

snapmirror problem “Transfer aborted: process was aborted”

Getting snapmirror problem “Transfer aborted: process was aborted” when you try to initialize? Try checking the amount of snapshots you have on the source volume. We had an issue where we already had the maximum amount of snapshots and the initialize could therefore not create its baseline one.

The error message is entirely useless and had a reasonable amount of information been provided by Netapp, this would not have take 2 days of investigation!

Delete a few snapshots and try again, it should be fine.

EasyTagger Basic GPS

I was looking for a GPS attachemtn for my camera – a Nikon D5100 – and came accross this http://e-geotag.com/easytagger-basic-gps.html. The official Nikon one is about twice the price for some reason, and doesn’t appear to have that great reviews. I ordered it form China and it arrived within the week. I was impressed with the quick delivery. I’m currently waiting longer than that for my lens hood from Germany! Anyway, it was easy to install as all you need to do is plug the cable in. This was a little stiff and I was a little unsure if I had it in correctly. The camera detected the GPS immediately. I went outside to take my first shots and with a clear view of the sky the GPS was locked on in less than a minute. Looking at the photo on google maps shows it was pretty accurate. It looks to be about 2m away from where I actaully was. Impressive! The only issue I did notice was that it disconnects occasionally. I discovered that thi was due to the cable not being pushed in completely due to the aforementioned stiffness. An extra push has ensure that it keeps it’s connection. As to battery life, I’m not sure. I’ve not ahd it too long, and the camera is pretty new too so I’m not sure how long it would last without the GPS.

For $50 (plus P&P), I really can’t complain.
